When travelling abroad where you may not know the language, it can sometimes be difficult to find out information about the points of interest that may be around you. The founders of Worldee are seeking to solve this issue using augmented reality (AR) to provide information on various tourist attractions.
Founder Connor Hoare and co-founder Daisy Flood are seeking $128,611 (USD) in funding, with eight days still remaining on the Kickstarter.
Hoare and Flood say they first had the idea for the app when they were on holiday in Rome and saw a tourist attraction, but did not know what it was. From there, they developed the idea of an AR information travel app.
The idea of Worldee is that users can point a smartphone camera at a point of interest, and the app would provide information on the attraction. This simplifies the process by not needing users to type anything into a search engine.
Worldee would use location services to pinpoint the user’s location and identify which landmark the user is standing close to, allowing the user to access a wealth of information on their surroundings. The app can also tell people about potential attractions in a city they are planning to visit, allowing travellers to make the most of their trip.
The founders say on the Kickstarter page: “The idea of gaining endless information on attractions all over the world at a tap of a button excited us as much as it excited friends and family once we shared our idea. Travelling is such an important factor in our lives during the 20th century and this app is made for any one with a passion to travel as much as us.”
Funding tiers range from £50 (GBP) for a 15-minute Skype call with founder Connor Hoare, to £100 for a 45-minute Skype call with Hoare. Further information can be found on the Kickstarter page. For future coverage on VR or AR Kickstarter projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.
