British indie studio Mad About Games Studios launched its open-world horror experience Reficul earlier this year, following six months in Early Access. Today, the team has announced a major Halloween update for the title adding new content whilst improving other aspects of the main videogame.
The new update adds several new pieces of content to make the experience more accessible and fun. Now there’s an Arcade Mode which features no weapon handling plus two separate modes; Reficul – with no realistic weapons or flashlight’s and Demon Hunter.
There are all new Dark Spirits which are no longer just shadows, whilst Demons have also seen improvements in areas such as AI.
Mad About Games Studios has further refined its headset support by adding options for no locomotion and locomotion with or without delay for HTC Vive and there’s now a smooth turn option for Oculus Rift. Windows Mixed Reality headsets are now also supported.
“We have spent the last 6 months working on improvements based on community feedback. We now have physical enemies and have changed some aspects of the game to be more fun. The all-new arcade mode has an easier more fun control system and we have also added some new arcade games which are very different from the main game.”
The videogame also benefits from a performance increase and has many fixes and improvements over the initial launch build in May 2018.
Reficul is available via Steam for £11.39 GBP. Set in a seemingly normal North American town, a darkness has swept through the world with players having access to a range of guns to protect themselves as well as powerful magical relics. It uses a perma-death system and procedural generation to ensure each play through is different, dispensing with way-point markers or highlighted pickups to encourage exploration.
Alongside Reficul, Mad About Games Studios will also be releasing the CDF Starfighter VR Re-mastered version and Ghostship One for VR next year. When further details regarding these are released, VRFocus will let you know.
