While the Oculus Quest has proven to be a highly popular device with some developers exceeding the $2 million revenue mark, there’s always room for improvements. This week Oculus has begun rolling out the latest software update for Oculus Quest, version 18, bringing with it a whole new suite of features to enhance your virtual reality (VR) experience.
Previously mentioning a few of these additions back in May, v18 will include the ability to change the colour of your Guardian Boundary (enabled in Settings > Guardian > Guardian Boundary), utilize predictive text using the in-VR keyboard, VR Tooltips to help those new to the system use new and popular VR features as well as improving the multi-browser experience.
Select Oculus Quest apps will make the universal menu accessible as an overlay rather than taking you out of the app entirely. And the social features have been improved so that: “You can now share in-VR content or ask a friend to join you in an app or experience in-VR via Messenger.”
One of the big additions is the beta Voice Commands option. Available to US English speaking users, its located within “Settings > Quick Actions > Voice Commands.” Found next to the Microphone icon or in the Oculus home menu, the feature now supports more commands such as “Take a photo” inside a videogame or “Start casting” to mirror your headset. More examples can be found by saying “What can I say?”
The new update may not be available to you just yet as it’ll be slowly released across territories.
There’s plenty more for Oculus Quest owners to look forward to with military-sim shooter Onward now confirmed for a July launch, plus In Death: Unchained and Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted also due for release this month.
As further updates are rolled out by Oculus, VRFocus will keep you updated.
